Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 13, 2026
1. Introduction
SoundScope is a Chrome browser extension developed and published by SoundScope Labs. This privacy policy describes how the SoundScope extension handles your data during use.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. SoundScope has been designed with the principle of data minimization: no personal data is collected. The extension communicates with two first-party edge services operated by SoundScope Labs (Cloudflare Workers): (a) the license worker soundscope-license.t8rpgc5d2n.workers.dev for validating, activating and deactivating a subscription key; (b) the anonymous audience measurement worker soundscope-telemetry.workers.dev which only receives aggregated counters (see section 11).
2. Data collected
SoundScope does not collect any personal data.
- No audio is recorded or stored
- No personal data is collected
- No browsing history is tracked
- No third-party cookies are used
- No personal identifiers are created or stored
- The only network communications are (1) license validation and (2) anonymous aggregated counters described in section 11
3. Local processing
All audio analysis is performed locally in your browser. The audio stream is analyzed in real-time by the extension and results are displayed directly in the interface. No audio samples, metrics, or analysis results ever leave your device.
4. Chrome permissions used
SoundScope uses the following Chrome permissions:
- tabCapture: Used exclusively to capture the audio stream from the active tab for real-time spectrum analysis. Captured audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
- storage (chrome.storage.local): Used only to store your user preferences (theme, display settings) and analysis history locally. This data remains on your device and is never synchronized or transmitted.
- activeTab: Used to detect the active streaming platform and adapt the interface accordingly.
5. Local storage
The only data stored by SoundScope is:
- Your display and configuration preferences
- Your analysis session history (metrics only, no audio)
- Your subscription status (Free, Pro, or Studio)
This data is stored via chrome.storage.local and remains exclusively on your device.
6. Data sharing
SoundScope does not share any data with third parties. No data is sold, rented, or transmitted to partners, advertisers, or other entities.
7. GDPR and user rights
Since SoundScope does not collect or process personal data, GDPR obligations related to personal data processing do not directly apply. Nevertheless, we respect the spirit of the regulation:
- Right to deletion: You can delete all locally stored data at any time through the extension settings or by uninstalling the extension.
- Right to information: This privacy policy transparently informs you about how the extension works.
- Data minimization: Only data strictly necessary for the extension's operation is stored locally.
8. Security
All audio analyses are performed locally. No audio sample, audio metric, or analysis result ever leaves your device. The only communications initiated by the extension are (a) license validation against the license worker, and (b) anonymous aggregated counters described in section 11. Extension updates are managed by the Chrome Web Store through Google's standard security mechanisms.
11. Anonymous audience measurement (Article 82)
SoundScope implements strictly anonymous audience measurement within the meaning of the exemption provided by Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act (transposing ePrivacy), as clarified by the CNIL: aggregation, first-party, no transmission to third parties, no cross-site tracking. No prior consent is required.
The only data transmitted to the soundscope-telemetry.workers.dev worker are daily aggregated counters, broken down only by event type. Exhaustive list of the 7 collected events:
open_popup— extension popup openclick_locked_metric— click on a paid-tier metricclick_ab_compare— click on the A/B comparison tabclick_history— click on the history tabclick_trial— click on the trial buttonclick_subscribe— click on a paid subscription buttonsession_expired— 5-minute session expired
No IP address is ever persisted. To protect the service against request floods, the incoming IP address is immediately transformed by a SHA-256 hash truncated to 16 hexadecimal characters, stored in a transient cache (60-second TTL), then deleted. This derived value is never written to the database, never associated with an event, never logged.
No cookie, no client identifier, no client-side timestamp, no User-Agent is transmitted or stored. The aggregated counters are retained indefinitely because they contain no directly or indirectly identifying information.

9. Changes to this policy
We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after modification constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
